WHO says, 20 countries have reported monkeypox infections, and more than 300+ confirmed cases and 100+ suspected cases of infection. The United Kingdom confirmed 90 cases as of May 26, 2022, UKHSA says “The risk to the UK population remains low” and “Asking people to be alert to any new rashes or lesions on any part of their body.”

As of now this writing (May 28, 2022, 8 AM.) CDC has confirmed 12 cases in the USA. California, Colorado, Florida, and Utah reported 2 cases in each state, and Massachusetts, Newyork, Virginia, and Washington reported 1 case in each state.

Monkeypox is a disease caused by a virus from the same family as smallpox. Monkeypox is a zoonotic orthopoxvirus disease. Zoonosis is a disease that spreads from animals to humans. The USA has already seen a Multistate Outbreak of Monkeypox in 2003.

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky warned the people of the USA, “While some groups may have a greater chance of exposure right now, infectious diseases do not care about state or international borders. They’re not contained within social networks, and the risk of exposure is not limited to any one particular group”.

Dr. Raj Panjabi, senior director for health security and biodefense at the White House, said, “We shouldn’t be surprised to see more cases reported in the US in the upcoming days. It’s actually a sign that Americans are remaining vigilant, and health care providers and public health workers are doing their job”.

Dr. Susan Hopkins, UKHSA’s Chief Medical Adviser, stated, “We are continuing to promptly identify further monkeypox cases in England through our extensive surveillance and contact tracing networks, our vigilant NHS services, and thanks to people coming forward with symptoms.” and added that,
“We are asking people to look out for new spots, ulcers, or blisters on any part of their body.”
