US class, Variant of Concern, Omicron’s Lineages BA.2, BA.2.12.1, BA.1.1 & BA.1.1.529, are circulating in the USA. X+ recombinants emerged recently, and a few cases of XG & XS recombinants were sequenced in the USA. What are the covid-19 recombinants X designated in 2022 so far?.
According to WHO, about Covid-19 variants, “Viruses, like SARS-CoV-2, change over time and will continue to change the more they circulate. Sometimes, variants of the virus may develop. A variant is where the virus contains at least one new change to the original virus. ”
WHO has already given the solution to end the pandemic. If you have missed the words “will(variants) continue to change the more they circulate.” Maintaining social distancing still makes a big difference in the emergence of covid variants.
Emerged in the United Kingdom, XE recombinant is only popular among all X+ so far. Other recombinants did not get much attention from the public.

On Friday, April 22, 2022, WHO recommended highly successful Covid-19 therapy, “WHO made a strong recommendation for nirmatrelvir and ritonavir, sold under the name Paxlovid, for mild and moderate Covid-19 patients at highest risk of hospital admission, calling it the best therapeutic choice for high-risk patients to date.”
According to WHO’s Director-General press conference statement released on April 13, 2022, “At present, there are a number of Omicron sub-lineages we’re following closely, including BA.2, BA.4 and BA.5 and another recombinant detected, made up of BA.1 and BA.2.”
“This virus has over time become more transmissible and it remains deadly, especially for the unprotected and unvaccinated that don’t have access to health care and antivirals.”
Understanding Mutations, Lineage, and Variants
Several widely used naming systems classify the virus’s emerging forms, relying on rules established by genomics experts to identify the branches and twigs of the Covid-19 (SARS-coV-2) family tree. The nomenclature used in different systems and press reports can be confusing.
A mutation is a single change in the genome of a virus. Mutations occur frequently, but only in rare instances do they change the characteristics of the virus.
A variant is a virus with one or more mutations in its genome.
A lineage is a group of viruses that share a common ancestor genetically.
A sublineage is a group of similar viruses, within a lineage.
A subvariant is a sublineage of a variant, most often referring to the variant of concern.
What Are the new X Covid-19 recombinant viruses sequenced in 2022?
XD – New Recombinant lineage of Delta and BA.1, France and Denmark lineage, 25 sequences as of February 5, 2022.
According to WHO, this lineage is 10% more transmissible than any other Omicron variant.
UKHSA said that “Earlier published growth rates for XE were not significantly different from BA.2, but using the most recent data up to 30 March 2022, XE has a 12.6 % higher growth rate than BA.2. XE’s growth advantage reached 20.9 % over the most recent three weeks.”
XF – New Recombinant lineage of Delta and BA.1, UK lineage, 30 sequences as of February 17, 2022.
XG – New Potential BA.1-BA.2 recombinant lineage with 140 new sequence designations. 107 sequences in Denmark, UK, US, and Germany as of March 2, 2022.
XH – Potential BA.1-BA.2 recombinant of new lineage with 42 new sequences designations, (43 sequences in Denmark) as of February 13, 2022.
XI – Here comes the Politics? United Nations public health avoided NU and XI, for XI UN’s Spokeswoman Dr.Margaret Harris said, “XI because it’s a common surname and we have agreed [to] naming rules that avoid using place names, people names, animal, etc. to avoid stigma.”
XJ – New BA.1-BA.2 recombinant lineage with 17 new sequence designations found in Finland (66 sequences as of March 25).
end of March, several cases of Omicron XJ, the most recent variant, were discovered first in Finland.
April first week, In Italy, a case has now been identified and validated. Thailand reported XE and XJ recombinant variants. According to experts, there is no evidence that the XJ is more dangerous at this point.

XC – Recombinant lineage with parental lineages AY.29 and B.1.1.7, Japan lineage, 24 sequences in the XC have been detected since the lineage was identified as not present after October 16, 2021.
